Gordon State College/Southern Crescent Technical College Make Transferring Credits Easier

Gordon and Southern Crescent Work together

Gordon State College and Southern Crescent Technical College signed an articulation agreement today that will allow for the transfer of credit from SCTC’s associate degree program in Consumer Economics into four four-year bachelor degree programs at Gordon.

“Southern Crescent Technical College has always been a partner in preparing students for the workforce,” said Gordon State College President Dr. Kirk A. Nooks. “This articulation agreement shows that students can complete their academic journey locally and maintain their commitment to developing the regional talent base.”

Administrators at both schools say the agreement is a partnership that provides educational opportunities for currently enrolled and potential students of both institutions.

“Southern Crescent Technical College is focused on creating opportunities for the students and communities that we serve,” said Dr. Alvetta P. Thomas, President of SCTC.  “Partnering with Gordon State College for articulation of our Consumer Economics associate degree and providing seamless transfer agreements will allow additional education pathways to assist our students in reaching their goals.  At the end of the day, it is our goal to create strong educational ecosystems with all of our education partners playing key roles in order to build strong students, strong careers, and strong communities.”

This is the first such agreement between the two institutions.

“We welcome the students from SCTC who want to complete their education at Gordon State College,” said Dr. Jeffery Knighton, Gordon State College Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. “Our goal is to help students earn a degree that prepares them for the regional workforce. This articulation agreement is a big step in reaching that goal.”

Under this agreement, students completing an associate degree in Consumer Economics from Southern Crescent Technical College are eligible to pursue a bachelor’s degree from Gordon State College in Human Services, Health Information Management, Interdisciplinary Studies or Management and Administration.

In addition, this meeting will serve as a commitment to pursue an upcoming articulation agreement between Gordon State College and Southern Crescent Technical College for students who have earned an associate degree in General Studies, a new program which SCTC plans to offer in the near future.
