Barnesville-Lamar County's Existing Business Community

People Jobs

Lamar County is home to almost two dozen manufacturers ranging in size from less than 10 employees to more than 200.  Ninety Nine% of US manufacturers have less than 500 employees and 75% of those, have less than 20 so we are a true reflection of the nation's manufacturing and small business community.

Although our history has been in the textile sector, Lamar County now enjoys a mix of manufacturing operations including textiles but also has producers in the wood, energy, food, aviation, automotive and logistics sectors all of which help maintain a healthier economy here.

The Barnesville-Lamar County Industrial Development Authority’s mission is to attract additional investment for Lamar County through marketing and promotion to achieve economic growth and an enhanced quality of life. This new investment can be realized through existing industry expansions, the most affordable kind of growth. Or, investment can come from other domestic or foreign location decisions. The retail sector is important to us for sale tax revenue but our resources focus primarily on the long-term benefits of generally higher paying manufacturing jobs that have a multiplier effect of creating additional jobs.

Lamar County has the capacity to grow, the leadership to facilitate the growth and a workforce ready to be a part of that growth. We are poised to get our share of any new growth that is a good fit for our community and region.
