Lamar County Career and Technical Education

Developing a Credentialed Workforce Pipeline While in High School

Lamar County Schools pride themselves in offering first-class academic, extracurricular, and post-secondary opportunities. The Career and Technical Education team works with regional partners to provide Dual Enrollment coursework, Worked-Based Learning in local businesses, and Career Pathways in: Business & Technology; Army JROTC; Health Science; Education & Training; Agribusiness and Film and Entertainment. Students are able to graduate with industry standard credentials in the pathways above and sometimes earn associates degrees at the same time as high school degrees.

Allied Health Students

Allied Health and Medicine students at Lamar County High School are practicing head to toe assessments including vital signs on the adult simulation manikin. The simulation manikin allows them to hear normal and abnormal heart, lung, and abdominal sounds. They are also able to assess abnormal vital signs based on the patient’s medical diagnosis within a simulation scenario. This experience prepares the students for a full day clinical with our partner, Gordon State College, in their nursing Pediatric Simulation Lab where they work one on one with BSN students and Gordon’s nursing instructors.

New Ag Pathway

New since School Opening in 2019!

A new Agriculture pathway has been introduced with a new Greenhouse, Lab and classroom in a new partnership with our strong Agriculture sectors. We look forward to watching our Agribusiness program grow! Students will be introduced to horticulture and mechanical training leading to a strong introduction to the newest skills in Agribusiness driving our rural economy.

Also, with the film industry all around us, the Lamar County High School drama teacher has brought a new film and entertainment pathway for creative minded students who are considering a place in this industry. She has been trained in the Georgia Film Academy and brings that experience to the students. They can then move on themselves into programs offered at Southern Crescent Technical College with their new film and production facilities in neighboring Griffin.
