Regional Workforce- over 85,000

Lamar/West Ga Region  December 2023, Preliminary data: 2.8%  Unemployment rate

Lamar County is located within a workforce shed that commutes an average of 30 min in any direction and include more than 85,000 workers. The area workforce has options for career pathways at all school systems that includes business, health care, agribusiness, entertainment and many more. All counties in the area have a diverse manufacturing base but strong sectors include advanced manufacturing, technical textiles, second and third tier automotive and aircraft parts and services, metal fabrication, wood products and energy.

Though the workforce unemployment data shows low unemployment hovering around 3%, there is strong belief that there is a workforce currently traveling outside the region who would like to work closer to home post pandemic. That is based on anecdotal information provided by local employers who say most candidates applying for work in their facilities do have jobs elsewhere but desire less travel. Download our Local Area Profile from the documents at the end of this page for details on our county's Labor shed and our draw area.
